MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State College athletics department has announced its weekly award winners, naming softball’s Holly Gamlen (Cazenovia, N.Y.) and golf’s Layne Martin (Findlay, Ohio) the Mustang Athletes of the Week for the week ending April 16.
Gamlen led Morrisville State from the plate in a slew of rescheduled games across the week, collecting 16 hits in 24 at bats for a .667 batting average, while posting seven runs and three RBI's. Two of her hits were doubles.
The junior was perfect from the plate twice on the week, going 4-for-4 with three runs against Cazenovia midweek, before putting together a 3-for-3 performance in game one against Wells on Saturday, where she also recorded a stolen base.
From her short stop position she also collected 17 put outs and assisted 28 in the field. Gamlen currently leads Morrisville State in batting with a .404 average, and a slugging percentage of .462.
A graduate of Cazenovia High, Gamlen is majoring in human performance and health promotion at Morrisville State. She is the daughter of Tammy and Fred Gamlen of Cazenovia.
