MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State College athletics department has announced its weekly award winners, naming sophomore Raylene Wade (Red Creek, N.Y.) and senior Byron Evans (Cazenovia, N.Y.) from the women's and men's cross country teams, the Mustang Athletes of the Week for the week ending October 2.
Wade paced the Mustang pack at the Lancaster Bible College Charger Invitational, collecting her first collegiate win among the field of 67, with a time of 25:38 in the 6K race to lead Morrisville State to a fourth place team finish on the day.
Her victory came on the heels of an eight second lead over the second place finisher.
The graduate of Red Creek High is majoring in human performance and health promotion at Morrisville State. She is the daughter of Shannon and Thomas Wade of Red Creek.
Evans was the individual winner at the Lancaster Bible College Charger Invitational on Saturday, leading the pack of 82 for the first place finish with a time of 27:36 in the 8K race, for his first win of the season.
His finish, which came 46 seconds ahead of the second place winner, led Morrisville State to a third place team outing in the field of eight teams that also included seven conference competitors.
The senior is majoring in automotive technology at Morrisville State. He is the son of Merry and James Evans of Cazenovia.
