MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State College athletics department has announced its weekly award winners, naming western rider Lindsey Stransky (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) and cross country runner Byron Evans (Cazenovia, N.Y.) the Mustang Athletes of the Week for the week ending October 30.
Stransky earned two first place ribbons over the weekend in the intermediate II western horsemanship class, contributing to the team's reserve and high point honors at the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) Morrisville Invitational on Sunday.
With the points she earned with her top rides in the intermediate II class, Stransky qualified for the Regional Championship show to be held in February.
The graduate of Arlington High is majoring in equine science and management at Morrisville State.
Evans was the top finisher at the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Championships Saturday, held at Lancaster Bible College, defeating the 101 runner field by nearly 23 seconds to capture the individual title, All-Conference First Team accolades and NEAC Runner of the Year honors.
Evans finished the 8K race with a time of 26:43.07, posting his second win of the season on the same course, while leading the men's team to a fourth place finish.
The senior is majoring in automotive technology at Morrisville State. He is the son of Merry and Jim Evans of Cazenovia.
