Schlake, Stephens named Mustang Athletes of the Week

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State College athletics department announced its weekly award winners Wednesday, naming sophomore Kaitlyn Schlake (Nampa, Id.) and Wally Stephens (Kingston, N.Y.) the Mustang Athletes of the Week for the week ending November 13.

Schlake played an instrumental role to the women's ice hockey sweep over SUNY Canton on the weekend, combining for two goals and a +3 rating on the ice.

In the 4-1 win over Canton on Friday, Schlake posted the first goal of the game, on the power play. She then added her second of the weekend on Saturday in the third period on a breakaway to seal the 6-2 win for the Mustangs.

Aside from contributing on the offensive end of the ice, Schlake was also part of the defensive unit that allowed just three goals across two games on the weekend, and currently leads the conference with a +13 rating while on the ice.

The sophomore is a human performance and health promotion major at Morrisville State. She is the daughter of LeeAnn and Matthew Schlake of Nampa, Idaho.

Stephens led Morrisville State to a 62-20 win over Alfred State in the football finale behind his defensive efforts.

The senior completed his career with a season high 14 total tackles, nine solo stops, including 1.5 sacks for a loss of 16 yards and a total 3.5 tackles for a loss of 18. He also recovered a fumble on the Pioneers first play of the game to set the tone for the defensive unit.

The graduate of Kingston High is majoring in criminal justice at Morrisville State. He is the son of Jody Naccarato and Wallace Stephens, Sr. of Kingston.
