McNeal, Flores named Mustang Athletes of the Week

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State College athletics department has announced its weekly award winners, naming freshmen lacrosse duo, Chelsea McNeal (Ithaca, N.Y.) and Jonathan Flores (West Babylon, N.Y.) the Mustang Athletes of the Week for the week ending April 2.

McNeal, attack for the women's lacrosse program, had a breakout week for the Mustangs, netting a combined 12 goals, 11 of which came in conference play as Morrisville State went 2-0 in NEAC action on the week.

In the win over Hilbert, McNeal posted a team high six goals, adding three ground balls, two draws and a caused turnover to her tallies as she was 1-for-1 in free positions and 66.7% in shooting from the field.

She followed that performance with another team best five goal outing as Morrisville State took down previously undefeated Medaille. McNeal added six ground balls and a draw control to her tallies on the day, shooting 55.6% from the field.

On the week, the freshman collected a total 12 goals, 11 ground balls, four draws, and caused one turnover while hitting 60% of shots taken, 80% of those on goal.

McNeal is a graduate of Ithaca High and is majoring in equine science and management at Morrisville State. She is the daughter of Christine and Brian McNeal of Ithaca.

Flores assisted the Morrisville State men's lacrosse team to a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) opening win over Medaille on Saturday, as he posted a team high 10 ground balls, adding a caused turnover and contributing on the offensive end with an assist.

His 10 ground ball pick-ups is a collegiate best for the freshman, who has 17 to date on the season.

Flores is a graduate of West Babylon High and is majoring in architectural studies and design at Morrisville State. He is the son of Jose Flores of West Babylon.
