MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State College athletics department has announced its Mustang Athletes of the Week for the week ending April 9, selecting junior Gianna Branca (Camillus, N.Y.) and sophomore Nick Geswaldo (Lafayette, N.Y.) as its honorees.
Branca led the women's lacrosse team to a 2-0 weekend in conference play as they took over the lead in conference standings with wins over Keuka and Wells.
Across both games, the junior registered eight goals and six assists, netting four goals and three assists in each outing. She added two ground balls and two caused turnovers to her tallies on the weekend, while hitting a perfect 2-for-2 in free position shots.
The junior is a graduate of West Genesee High and is majoring in nursing at Morrisville State. She is the daughter of Joy Anthis and Carmen Branca of Camillus.
Geswaldo led the men's lacrosse team to a 2-0 week within conference play, netting a combined 14 points on eight goals and six assists as the Mustangs improved to 3-0 in NEAC action.
The sophomore posted a nine point outing in a rematch of last year's semifinal with Bryn Athyn, netting five goals and assisting four others, while grabbing a ground ball.
He added to his total on Friday, with three additional scores and two more assists, while adding two ground balls and a caused turnover in the win over Wells.
A graduate of Lafayette High, Geswaldo is majoring in horticulture at Morrisville State. He is the son of Vicky and Louis Geswaldo of Lafayette.
