Merrill, Edmond named Mustang Athletes of the Week   


MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State College athletics department has announced its weekly award winners, naming sophomore outside hitter, Megyan Merrill (Millport, N.Y.) and junior running back Nick Edmond (Blythe, Calif.) the Mustang Athletes of the Week for the week ending September 3.

Merrill led Morrisville State to a 2-1 match record on opening weekend from her outside hitting position. The sophomore posted 44 kills across three matches, including a high 27 in the 3-1 loss to Oswego; adding 28 digs and three total blocks to her tallies.

Merrill averaged 4.89 kills per set, hit .348 across the weekend, adding two service aces, and contributed 47.5 points (5.3 points per set).

The sophomore is a graduate of Horseheads High and is majoring in applied psychology at Morrisville State. She is the daughter of Melissa and David Merrill of Millport.

Edmond collected 140 yards total rushing on 23 carries, while collecting three touchdown scores to lead Morrisville State football to a season opening 34-20 win over Norwich University on Saturday.

Edmond's scores came on carries of 4-yards, 15-yards, and 2-yards, two of which were in the second quarter as Morrisville State pulled away from Norwich for the two touchdown lead at the halftime break.

The junior is a graduate of Palo Verde High and is majoring in technology management at Morrisville. He is the son of Regina Edmond of Blythe, California.
