Leva, Hanes named Mustang Co-Athletes of the Week   


MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State College athletics department has announced its weekly award winners, naming field hockey senior Liz Leva (Hoosick Falls, N.Y.) and junior setter/right side hitter Helena Hanes (St. Mary's, Pa.) the Mustang Co-Athletes of the Week for the week ending Sept. 10.

Leva posted her first collegiate hat trick in a 4-2 defeat of preseason favorite Wells College on Saturday, with all three goals coming in the second half of play.

Her first two tallies came within three minutes of one another, regaining the lead for the Mustangs after a Wells score tied the contest at the half. On both goals, Leva put home rebounds off goalkeeper saves, before collecting her third goal late in the contest off a sweep on the left post to secure the win.

The graduate of Hoosick Falls High is majoring in horticulture business management at Morrisville State. She is the daughter of Marchell and Charlie Leva of Hoosick Falls.

Hanes played a key role in leading Morrisville State to a 3-0 week, including 2-0 outing in NEAC action as they won nine straight sets without suffering a loss.

The junior collected 19 kills, assisted another 33, while serving up four total aces, registering seven digs, and three total blocks, to account for 24.5 points across nine sets on the week. Playing in limited action against NEAC opponents Cazenovia and Penn College, Hanes posted eight kills (4 per match), 20 total assists (an average of 4.0 per set) and two digs.

She wrapped up her weekend action with 11 kills and 13 assists in the outing against Misericordia, hitting .432 for the week.

A graduate of St. Mary's High, Hanes is majoring in entrepreneurship and small business management at Morrisville State. She is the daughter of Stephanie and Mike Hanes of St. Mary's, Pennsylvania.
