Wolf, Rodriguez named Mustang Athletes of the Week   

 

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State College athletics department has announced its weekly award winners, naming Samantha Wolf (Liverpool, N.Y.) and Julian Rodriguez (Bronx, N.Y.) the Mustang Athletes of the Week for the week ending Sept. 24.

Wolf, libero and defensive specialist for the women's volleyball team, led Morrisville State defensively in a 2-1 week, recording 108 total defensive digs, while contributing offensively with 15 assists and two service aces.

She began her week with 32 digs in a 3-2 win over Oneonta, averaging 6.40 digs per set, while adding seven assist and an ace to her tallies.

On Saturday, in the five set bout with Wells, Wolf collected 42 digs (8.40 per set), before wrapping up her week with an outing of 34 digs in the 3-2 match win over Hamilton. On the week Wolf averaged 7.20 digs per set.

The business administration major at Morrisville State is a graduate of Liverpool High. She is the daughter of Julie and Tom Wolf of Liverpool.

Rodriguez, senior striker for the men's soccer team, scored twice in a 3-1 conference win over Cazenovia Saturday afternoon, leading Morrisville State to their first North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) win of the season.

The senior posted the first tally came in the 6th minute of the contest as he had a breakaway and then dodged the goalkeeper for an open net score. He added his second in the 57th minute, converting a penalty kick.

Rodriguez leads the Mustangs in points (11) to date on the season, and goals (5). He ranks second overall in the NEAC in both categories as well.

The criminal justice major at Morrisville State is a graduate of Marble Hill High. He is the son of Ingrid Zarala of the Bronx.
