MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State College athletics department has announced its weekly award winners, naming freshman Haley Evarts (Irondequoit, N.Y.) and senior Jose Figueroa (Boston, Mass.) the Mustang Athletes of the Week for the week ending October 1.
Evarts led Morrisville State in a 1-1 week, collecting five points behind her one goal and three assists. In the loss to Oswego, Evarts posted the first goal of the day seven minutes into the contest, and followed with an assist on a goal late in the game.
The freshman wrapped up her week with a two assist outing in the 3-1 win over Wilson, assisting the eventual game winner.
The freshman is a graduate of Irondequoit High and is majoring in individual studies at Morrisville State. She is the daughter of Robin and Jay Evarts of Irondequoit.
Figueroa led Morrisville State to a 1-1 week as he posted two goals in a key North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) win over Keuka College midweek.
The senior paced the Mustangs in a come-from-behind win, netting the game tying score in the first half before securing the win with his third of the season late in the second to seal the 4-2 victory.
A graduate of Thomas Proctor High, Figueroa is majoring in massage therapy at Morrisville State. He is the son of Irma and Oscar Pineda of Utica.
