Hughes, Dennis named Mustang Athletes of the Week

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State College athletics department has announced its weekly award winners, selecting junior Kimberly Hughes (Lloydminster, AB) and sophomore Kevin Dennis (Bronx, N.Y.) as it's Mustang Athletes of the Week for the week ending Dec. 10.

Hughes, defenseman for the Mustangs women's ice hockey team, played a critical role in the team's non-conference battle against cross town rival Utica College on Saturday.

As part of the defensive unit, her efforts limited the host Pioneers to 22 total shots on the game, while keeping them scoreless for two periods in the contest, and scoreless on their lone power play opportunity of the afternoon.

On the day, Hughes posted a +2 on ice rating, having been on the ice for both Mustang scores.

The human performance and health promotion major at Morrisville State is an ACHA All-American Scholar, and Colonial Hockey Conference All-Academic team recipient. She is the daughter of Joanne and Stephen Hughes of Lloydminster, Alberta.

Dennis led Morrisville State men's basketball to a 1-1 week, averaging 28.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per outing for the Mustangs.

The sophomore started the week with a 31 point performance at non-conference cross town opponent Utica College, before registering a 26 point, 11 rebound outing that also included three steals and three blocked shots, against conference foe Wells College on Saturday.

On the week, Dennis shot 65.6% from the floor on 21-of-32 field goals made, and 83.3% from the free throw line, converting 15-of-18 attempts, while collecting 15 rebounds, one assist, three steals and three blocked shots; in 26 minutes on average per game.

A graduate of Harry S. Truman High, Dennis is majoring in criminal justice at Morrisville State. He is the son of Monique Davis of the Bronx.

Morrisville State College's curricula are enriched with applied learning and pave the way for opportunity at both the Morrisville and Norwich campuses.
