Three from Morrisville State College western equine team crowned regional champions; Mustangs advance six to National Semifinals

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State College western equestrian riding team finished the 2014-15 season as the high point team in Zone 2- Region 3, crowning three regional champions Sunday afternoon at the Western Riding Arena on Swamp Road in Morrisville at the Regional Championships.

Morrisville State concluded the season with 219 team points, topping SUNY Cobleskill who finished as reserve high point team with 179 for the year.

The Mustangs began the competition with a winning ride from Kiley McCusker (Simsbury, Conn.) in the open western horsemanship finals, with Anna Harrigan (Lancaster, N.Y.) turning in a second place finish in the advanced western horsemanship class.

Kirsten Sheffer (Corning, N.Y.) and Jordan Sweeten (Cuba, N.Y.) finished in first and second, respectively, in the intermediate western horsemanship finals for the Mustangs, topping the field of seven qualifiers, before Erika Miller (Wyoming, N.Y.) and Carrie Herzog (Eden, N.Y.) claimed the top two spots in the novice western horsemanship finals. Miller was the blue ribbon winner in the novice class for the Mustangs, while Herzog finished second.

The top two riders from each class advance to the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) National Semifinals held at Ohio State University, at the Eden Park Equestrian Center in Sunbury, Ohio on March 21st and 22nd.

Morrisville State advanced a total six individual riders to the semifinal competition, with the pointed team riders also advancing following the regular season high point team performance.
