Livermore crowned 2018 IHSA National Champion in Novice Fences

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Morrisville State College sophomore hunt seat rider, Marcus Livermore (Syracuse, N.Y. / Henninger High) rode his way to a National Title Thursday afternoon in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania at the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) National Finals, capturing the program's first title in the individual novice over fences class.

The sophomore scored an 83 in his opening ride among the field of 10 competing for the top spot, and was one of two riders to receive a call back to test for the championship crown.

After what head coach Erin Dunn called a "pristine ride" Livermore edged out a rider from Emory & Henry College in Virginia to claim the title, and become the first in program history to come home as a national champion.

Livermore earlier in the season was the Region's runner up in two classes, the novice over fences and novice on the flat, to earn a qualifying ride for the Zone Championships in mid-April.

At Zones, the sophomore again earned the opportunity to advance the year, placing second in both classes to advance to the National Finals.

Aside from winning the national crown in the over fences class, Livermore also rode to a fourth place finish among 10 qualifiers in the novice on the flat class.

Livermore is the first to represent Morrisville State since 2004 on the national stage.

The sophomore is a graduate of Henninger High and is majoring in equine science and management at Morrisville State.

Morrisville State College's curricula are enriched with applied learning and pave the way for opportunity at both the Morrisville and Norwich campuses.
