Gibbs honored by Empire 8 for Spring Academic Achievement

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Empire 8 Athletic Conference announced its President's List for the Spring 2017 semester, recognizing football senior, Naqi Gibbs (Albany, N.Y.) for excellence in the classroom.

Recipients must earn a minimum 3.75 grade point average while participating in a conference-sponsored sport. The conference states, "it's commitment to serve the educational needs of its student-athletes is the hallmark of the Empire 8."

"Naqi is a tremendous young man," said head football coach Curt Fitzpatrick. "I am very proud of the growth that Naqi made during his four seasons here at Morrisville State College."

"Naqi is a perfect example of how the college experience, and more specifically how the college football experience, can help to shape and mold a young man's future by way of the classroom and as a person," Fitzpatrick continued.

"When it's time for Naqi to leave Morrisville State College, someone is going to hire a very dedicated, hard-working, committed, and accountable person - all things that he demonstrated for four years in our football program."

Gibbs, a business administration major at Morrisville State, is a two-time academic honoree with the Empire 8. He is the son of Tracy Wilson and Holland Gibbs of Albany.
