Wells captures 1-0 victory over Morrisville State sticks

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Visiting Wells College field hockey got a break midway through the second half and notched the lone goal of the contest as they captured a 1-0 victory over visiting Morrisville State College Saturday evening in Morrisville.

The win lifts the Express to 3-7 overall, while Morrisville State drops to 1-7.

Both teams played to a scoreless first half and played back and forth early on in the second, before Wells took advantage of a Morrisville State foul and found an opening as they fed the ball to the center of the circle to a cutting Kelly Mason for the tip and game winning score.

Ivy Cromp was credited with the assist.

Meredith Koziol (Waterford, N.Y.) registered four saves in the loss for the Mustangs.

Kelsey Kokosa picked up the win, turning aside six as Morrisville State held the slim 11-10 advantage in shots on the night.

Morrisville State returns to the field Wednesday, traveling to SUNY Oswego for a 4 p.m. State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) contest.
