Mustangs Fall 3-2 in Overtime Heartbreaker to Brockport

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State Field Hockey team saw a two goal lead slip away late in the second half, ultimately falling 3-2 in overtime at home against the Golden Eagles from Brockport.

The Mustangs and the Golden Eagles played neck-and-neck throughout the entire first half nearly equaling each other in shots against.  However, it was the Mustangs who proved to be more efficient, putting more shots on goal.  Their persistence paid off at the 28:16 mark when senior, Elizabeth Leva (Hoosick Falls, N.Y.) put away a rebound shot for her ninth goal of the season to give Morrisville the 1-0 advantage.

Brockport turned it up a notch in the second half, putting more pressure on the Mustangs in both penalty corners awarded and shots.  Despite the push by the Golden Eagles, the Mustangs found a way to put up another goal when Emily Hunt (Harpursville, N.Y.) centered the ball to the awaiting stick of Hayley Fonfara (Elma, N.Y.) who found the back of the cage.

Unfortunately, the two goal advantage would not hold up as Brockport was able to even the score with goals at the 65:42 mark and the 68:40 mark.

Tied at two goals apiece, the game headed into extra time.  The Mustangs put two shots on goal, but it was a breakaway for the Golden Eagles that clinched the sudden victory win for Brockport.

The Mustangs will now turn their attention to Keuka College as they face the Wolves at home on Wednesday.  Game time is set for 4 PM.
