Morrisville State sweeps weekly volleyball awards  


MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) announced its weekly volleyball awards Monday afternoon, naming Morrisville State juniors Megyan Merrill (Horseheads, N.Y.) and Samantha Wolf (Liverpool, N.Y.) the Volleyball Player and Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending September 2.

Merrill was named the player of the week after serving as the Mustangs offensive leader in a 4-1 opening weekend. The junior outside hitter registered a total 79 kills, one assist, 37 digs, seven service aces and 86 total points in five matches on the weekend at the Morrisville State tournament.

She posted a single match high 23 kills in a 3-1 win over Hartwick and five service aces in a 3-0 sweep of Buffalo State. In the match against Oswego Saturday, Merrill became the all-time leader in kills for the Mustangs.

On the weekend she averaged 4.65 kills per set, and finished the weekend with a .303 hitting percentage.

Merrill is a graduate of Horseheads High and is majoring in applied psychology at Morrisville State. She is the daughter of Melissa and Doug Merrill of Millport.

Wolf has been named the Defensive Player of the Week for the NEAC following her defensive efforts across the opening weekend for Morrisville State.

Wolf accumulated 14 assists, six service aces and 116 digs across five matches, beginning with 22 against Hartwick before closing out the weekend with 48 digs in the 3-1 match win over Penn St. Behrend.

The junior averaged 6.82 digs per set in the 4-1 opening weekend.

Wolf is a graduate of Liverpool High and is majoring in business administration at SUNY Morrisville. She is the daughter of Julie and Tom Wolf of Liverpool.
