Last second jumper spoils Morrisville State comeback; Keuka edges Mustangs 78-77 in overtime thriller

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. – Visiting Morrisville State College men's basketball battled back from a 17-point second half deficit to force extra time, but host Keuka College hit a long range two from the top of the paint with seconds remaining on the clock to capture the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) win over the Mustangs Wednesday night in Keuka.

The loss is the first for Morrisville State in conference play, as they fall to 5-7 overall, 3-1 in NEAC action. Keuka pulls even at 6-6 overall, 4-1 in conference play.

The Wolves maintained a double digit lead over the visitors, leading by as many as 17 with 11:51 to go, before Morrisville State pulled to within eight with five minutes remaining in the period.

A three from senior Trent Ward (Auburn, N.Y.) ignited a 12-2 run to bring the Mustangs within three with 37 seconds remaining, and after two Keuka free throws to extend the host lead to five, freshman Brison Hall (Syracuse, N.Y.) hit a layup with eight ticks to go to cut the Wolf advantage to three.

A quick foul gave Keuka the opportunity to seal the win from the free throw line, but both shots hit off the rim and the rebound landed in the hands of Hall who drove to the top of the key on the opposite end and nailed the game tying long ball to force the overtime period.

Keuka was the first to net a bucket in the extra frame, and added another at the two minute mark before Hall nailed his fourth from beyond the arc of the contest to bring the Mustangs within one on the ensuing possession.

Morrisville State forced a Keuka turnover to regain possession, and went inside to Kevin Dennis (Bronx, N.Y.) who hit the layup and gave the Mustangs their first lead of the contest since early on in the opening half.

Following a Mustang turnover, Keuka regained possession with 13 seconds to go, and as time wound down, nailed the jumper just inside the top of the key to claim the 78-77 victory.

Hall finished with a Mustang high 20 points, adding 11 rebounds and two steals, as he hit 8-for-11 from the floor, including 4-of-5 from long range. Dennis also collected a double-double with his 12 point, 13 rebound effort, while Ward added 17 points and Kyle Peck (Oneida, N.Y.) 14 in the Mustang efforts.

Ryder Mansfield led all scorers with 26 points for Keuka, adding 13 rebounds, while three additional teammates netted double figures in the win. Cliff Stevens and Greg Tyler each collected 12, while Trevor Powell added 10 points to go along with 13 rebounds.

Morrisville State returns to the court Saturday, as they hit the road for a back-to-back NEAC double with Penn St. Berks and College of St. Elizabeth.
