Morrisville State golf second overall at Cobleskill Invitational

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State College men's golf team hit the fairways for the first time in 2014 Friday morning, finishing second overall at the SUNY Cobleskill Invitational held at the Cobleskill Golf & Country Club.

Morrisville State compiled a total 318 strokes on the day, falling short of invitational winner Cobleskill who turned in a 304 performance on the par 70 - 6,143 yard course.

Three Mustangs turned in a top 10 performance, including sophomore Darren Young (Woodstock, Ontario) who finished six over par (76) for a fourth place individual finish.

Senior Zac McMichael (Bancroft, Ontario) turned in a seventh overall finish with a score of 78 strokes on the day, while sophomore Brandon Davis (Manlius, N.Y.) finished tied for 10th turning in a score of 80.

Marc-Antoine Chaput (Mascouche, Quebec) finished 16th for the fourth scoring Mustang on the day, with a total 84, as Layne Martin (Findlay, Ohio) turned in a 27th individual place finish, shooting a 91.

Freshman Tim Vara (Rochester, N.Y.) shot 22 over par to finish in 30th for Morrisville State.

The Mustangs return to the greens Monday, traveling to SUNY Oswego for the Laker Invitational. Morrisville State will tee off at 1 p.m. in Oswego.
