Morrisville Falls 4-1 in SUNYAC Action against Oswego State

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State Men's Ice Hockey team struggled to get their offense rolling as they fell to the visiting Lakers from Oswego State 4-1 in SUNYAC action on Friday night.

The Mustangs, who skated to a 5-5 draw last Saturday against UMass.-Boston, struggled to get shots off against a stingy Lakers defense.  On the other side, Oswego State pounded the Morrisville net with 44 shots compared the Mustangs' twenty.

Despite the shot differential, Morrisville only trailed by one goal heading into the third period.  Unfortunately for the Mustangs, the Lakers converted on a power play to go up 3-1 just twenty nine seconds into the third period.

Morrisville put the pressure on late in the third, taking advantage of an Oswego interference penalty with just under three minutes remaining in the game.  Already skating with a man up, the Mustangs pulled their goal tender in favor of an extra skater.  As the Lakers returned their penalty, the Mustangs continued to play with an open net.

The comeback bid fell short though, when Alex Botten pushed the puck ahead to Shawn Hulshof who was able to find the empty net, giving the Lakers a 4-1 lead and the eventual win with seven seconds remaining.

David Landau (Newtown, Conn.) notched the lone goal for the Mustangs at the 1:34 mark in the second period.  Jared Young (Pueblo West, Colo.) took the loss in goal for Morrisville, despite turning away a season-high 40 saves.

The Mustangs will look to flip the script at 7 PM tomorrow evening as they head to Oswego State for the second game of this conference series.
