Kangaroos down Mustangs 5-3 despite DeVito’s Two Goal Effort

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State Men's Ice Hockey team dropped a non-conference match up on Saturday night 5-3 against the visiting Kangaroos from SUNY Canton.

The Mustangs got their home crowd into it early, scoring just two minutes and fifteen seconds into play.  Nick DeVito (Averill Park, N.Y.) hovered in front of the crease and re-directed a Chris Pearson (Ottawa, Ontario) shot for the early 1-0 advantage.

However, it was the Kangaroos who controlled the game for the rest of the first period and throughout the second, scoring 5 straight.

Morrisville was able to mount a comeback at the 8:21 mark in the third period as DeVito once again found the back of the net after passes from David Landau (Newtown, Conn.) and Jimmy Philbin (Chicago, Ill.) set up the shot.  The Mustangs scored 39 seconds later on a Layne Martin (Findlay, Ohio) strike from Storm Adams (Akwesasne, N.Y.), bringing the deficit to only two goals.

Unfortunately, that's all the Mustangs would get in the third despite a last-ditch effort with a minute and forty seven seconds when they pulled their goalie for the extra skater.

With the 5-3 loss, Morrisville falls to 2-9-2 on the year, while SUNY Canton improved to 2-8-2.

The Mustangs will head out on three-straight non-conference road contests over the break between semesters.  The first is a return trip to Utica on Saturday, December 17.  Game time is set for 7:00 PM.
