Young, Santino named Mustang Co-Athletes of the Week

Young had a stellar outing for the Mustangs between the pipes on Friday in a 5-2 upset victory over #12 ranked Utica College. In the contest he collected a collegiate high 52 saves out of 54 faced shots, including three in the closing minutes of the contest as the Pioneers had an extra skater on the ice.

The freshman shut out Utica in the first period, registering 23 saves, and kept the Pioneers scoreless on five power play opportunities on the night.

A 2014 graduate of Fairview High School, Young played two seasons for the Dells Ducks before coming to Morrisville State to major in natural resources conservation. He is the son of Teri and Eric Young of Pueblo West, Colorado.

Santino, senior forward for the Mustangs, led the charge offensively against the Pioneers, registering four points on the night behind his two goals and two assists.

He was the first to put the Mustangs on the board, answering an early Utica score at the 11 minute mark in the opening period, before finding a teammate six minutes later for an assist on the go ahead tally.

His efforts in the third period helped secure the win for Morrisville State, as he netted a second score in the final five minutes to give the Mustangs a two goal advantage, before assisting the empty net tally in the closing seconds of the contest for the win.

A criminal justice major at Morrisville State, Santino has posted eight goals and assisted six for a team leading 14 points on the season. He is the son of Linda and Joe Santino of Woodbridge, Ontario.
