MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State Men's Ice Hockey team dropped a State Universities of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) match up, 5-1 on Saturday afternoon to the Knights from SUNY Geneseo.
Geneseo asserted themselves early on Saturday afternoon, posting their first goal just over a minute into play. The Knights continued to dominate, posting 18 shots on goal compared to just five for the Mustangs. However, Geneseo's persistence would not pay off until the 14th minute of action when they scored twice within the minute to take a 3-0 lead into the first intermission.
The Knights continued to add to their scoring, picking up a power play goal at 7:01 in the second for a 4-0 advantage.
The Mustangs would respond 37 seconds later when Nick DeVito (Averill Park, N.Y.) found a slashing Layne Martin (Findlay, Ohio) to put the Mustangs on the board. CJ Stubbs (Pleasant Grove, Vt.) also picked up an assist on the goal. Despite outshooting the Knights in the second period, Morrisville could not tack on another goal.
Geneseo would give themselves a cushion late in the third with their fifth goal of the game to secure the 5-1 win.
The Mustangs will take a break from SUNYAC action this week for three non-conference contests. First up is a road trip to the Pittsburgh area for a tilt against the Cougars from Chatham College. Puck is set to drop at 7:20 PM.
