MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State Men's Ice Hockey team fell 4-0 in a State Universities of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) at Brockport on Friday night.
The Brockport Golden Eagles dominated offensively throughout the first period, holding the Mustangs to just three shots on goal. However, it wasn't until the end of the first period that Brockport was able to convert their fifteen shot attempts into a goal. The Golden Eagles picked up the 1-0 lead with just thirteen seconds remaining in the opening frame.
While the Golden Eagles continued to pound the Morrisville net with shots in the second period, the defense stepped up, especially the goal tending of Jared Young (Pueblo West, Colo.) who picked up 13 saves in the second.
The defense continued to hold Brockport off of the scoreboard throughout most of the third period as well. Unfortunately, the hosts broke through with just under three minutes remaining in regulation to go up 2-0.
The Mustangs took a chance late in the third, pulling Young in favor of an extra skater. The gamble would not pay off as the Golden Eagles went up 3-0 on an empty netter.
Brockport completed the 4-0 win with a goal at the 19:47 mark in the third.
The Mustangs and the Golden Eagles will face off again tomorrow night at 7:00 PM in Brockport for their SUNYAC series finale.
