Morrisville State men cage Fighting Tigers, walk away with 20-4 NEAC win

COBLESKILL, N.Y. – Visiting Morrisville State College men's lacrosse dominated host SUNY Cobleskill Wednesday afternoon, picking up a 20-4 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) victory behind six scores from leader Nick Geswaldo (Lafayette, N.Y.) on the road in Cobleskill.

The win is the fourth straight for the Mustangs within conference play, improving their record to 5-4 overall with a 4-0 NEAC record.

Morrisville State outshot Cobleskill 61-16 on the day, and dominated the hosts 57-28 in ground balls.

Geswaldo led all scorers on the day with six goals, adding an assist for seven points, while teammate Chris Dovi (Cortland, N.Y.) collected two scores, assisting another four.

Gavin MacLachlan (Onondaga, N.Y.) netted the hat trick with three goals, while seven additional teammates registered goals in the win.

Tyler Catalfano (Rochester, N.Y.) recorded the win between the pipes, turning away six, as teammate Dan Sherlock (Tully, N.Y.) collected a save in the final quarter of action.

Morrisville State jumped out to a 6-0 lead after the opening quarter, as Dovi got the ball rolling with the first tally of the contest at the 8:23 mark.

Geswaldo posted back-to-back scores and added another with just under two minutes to go in the first, before Corey Grace (Penn Yan, N.Y.) capped off the quarter with the tally off the feed from Kyle Shannon (Stanhope, N.J.).

Cobleskill gained ground on the Mustangs with the first score of the second, but it was a five goal run for the visitors over the next 11 minutes, including two from Geswaldo, that extended the lead to 10 with minutes remaining before the half.

After a Fighting Tiger score with 2:23 remaining in the second, Morrisville State's Mike Ready (Lafayette, N.Y.) added his fourth of the year to carry the Mustangs into the locker room with a 12-2 advantage at the half.

Morrisville State increased their lead to 15 with a six goal run that extended into the fourth, before wrapping up all scoring with two more in the closing minutes to seal the conference win.

Nate Bizub (Tully, N.Y.) and Shawn Walberger (Fulton, N.Y.) combined for 17 faceoff wins on the day; Bizub registering nine wins out of 12 attempts. Walberger picked up a team high six ground balls, with teammates Jonathan Flores (West Babylon, N.Y.) and Trevor Jones (Lafayette, N.Y.) each collecting five apiece.

The Mustangs return to the field Saturday, hosting SUNY Polytechnic at noon on Drake Field on the Morrisville State campus.
