Second half propels Morrisville State past Gallaudet in road win

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Morrisville State College men's soccer team used a three goal second half en route to a 4-0 victory over North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) opponent Gallaudet University on the road in Washington.

The win lifts the Mustangs to 10-2 on the season, 9-1 in conference action. Gallaudet drops to 4-101, 2-7-1 in NEAC play.

Morrisville State struck quick, notching the first tally of the game less than two minutes in as Accele Rando (Thailand) connected with a streaking Joe Sheehan (Liverpool, N.Y.) on the right for the opening score.

That score would be the lone tally of the opening half, as the Mustangs carried a 1-0 lead into the second. Mick Keilan (Berlin, N.Y.) posted one save in the first half to keep the hosts off the board.

Morrisville State extended their lead in the 60th minute as Joe Figueroa (Boston, Mass.) rifled the direct kick just outside the box into the back of the net for a 2-0 Mustang advantage, before Sheehan added his second of the afternoon just five minutes later for a three goal lead.

A two-on-one fast break in the 89th minute led to a fourth and final Morrisville State score, as the Mustangs collected the conference win.

Eric Berglund (Elmira, N.Y.) helped secure the shutout victory, turning away one in the final 25 minutes of play.

Morrisville State held the 17-4 advantage in shots over the Bison, and 6-to-3 corner kick edge.

The Mustangs return to the pitch tomorrow, visiting Wilson College for a 2 p.m. start.
