MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State College men's soccer team dropped the 2017 season opener Friday night in Elizabethtown, falling to the hosts by a 7-1 final score.
Senior Julian Rodriguez (Bronx, N.Y.) posted the lone score for the Mustangs, an unassisted tally in the 83rd minute.
Elizabethtown notched their first tally of the night just six minutes in, before adding to their lead with another at the 15 minute mark.
The hosts went on to add four additional scores to their first half lead, three that came within a span of three minutes time, as they claimed the 6-0 advantage at the break.
Elizabethtown would add to their lead with two more tallies in the second half before Rodriguez's tally broke the offensive drought for the Mustangs. Rodriguez stole the ball from the defense and dribbled into the box to post the tally on the right side.
Cody Welkley (North Rose, N.Y.) recorded the loss after appearing in the opening half for the Mustangs in net, making six stops, before senior Cody Gaines (Hoosick Falls, N.Y.) made a second half appearance, allowing one score.
