MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) office announced its weekly award winners in the sport of men's soccer Monday, naming sophomore goalkeeper, Cody Welkley (North Rose, N.Y.) the Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending September 9.
Welkley posted a 0.00 GAA and two shutouts across two games for the Mustangs on the weekend, collecting a 1-0-1 record as Morrisville State tied MCLA 0-0 in two overtime periods before recording the 1-0 win over Union College at the CIAO Classic held at MCLA.
He began the weekend with five saves, including one in the second overtime frame against MCLA to force the tie, before turning away a total nine against Union on Saturday. Five of his tallies came in the second half to secure the win.
The sophomore is a graduate of North Rose – Wolcott High and is majoring in agricultural business development at SUNY Morrisville. He is the son of Kathy and Eric Welkley of North Rose.
