Morrisville State women corral Express, post 57-49 NEAC win

AURORA, N.Y. – Visiting Morrisville State College women's basketball collected a critical North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) win Sunday afternoon, topping the host Wells College Express by a 57-49 final in Aurora.

The win gives the Mustangs the sweep in conference play on the weekend, improving their record to 14-5 to date on the season, and 9-3 in NEAC action.

The trio of Charlotte Walker (Middle Island, N.Y.), Jordan Anderson (West Edmeston, N.Y.) and Haley Kilmartin (Fort Plain, N.Y.) combined for 50 of the team's 57 total points on the day, with Walker leading the way with 19, as she collected the double-double with a team best 10 rebounds.

Anderson posted 17 to go along with five steals and five boards, while Kilmartin added 14 points, three assists and seven rebounds.

Allison Chase (Weedsport, N.Y.) was the lone additional Mustang to score, netting seven on two from beyond the arc, while dishing out three assists.

Morrisville State led 42-39 after three quarters, before shooting 41.7% from the floor in the final frame.

Shelby Medovich hit a jumper for the hosts to bring Wells within one with 6:33 to go in the final quarter, but the Mustangs went on a 9-3 surge to go up by seven with 46 seconds to go in the contest, and hit 3-of-4 from the charity stripe in the closing seconds to secure the conference win over the Express.

Morrisville State outgained Wells 32-12 in the paint and collected 15 points on Express turnovers on the day.

The Mustangs return to the court Wednesday, looking to avenge an early season loss to the Fighting Tigers from SUNY Cobleskill. Tip-off is scheduled for 5 p.m. in Morrisville.
