GALLOWAY, N.J. – The Morrisville State College women's basketball team was overpowered by host Stockton University Saturday evening in the opening round of the Stockton Tip-Off Tournament held in Galloway, falling 77-46 to the Osprey's.
Two freshmen led the way for the Mustangs, as Alexis Campbell (Buffalo, N.Y.) posted 11 points and two steals, while teammate Abby Halsey (Palmyra, N.Y.) added 10 points and team high seven rebounds. Peyton Jackson (Rochester, N.Y.) added seven points.
Stockton had three post double figures, including leader Najha Treadwell who recorded the double-double behind her 16 points and 12 rebounds, eight that came on the offensive glass.
Morrisville State struggled from the get go, shooting a combined 22.2% from the floor for the contest, posting a best quarter in the fourth as they converted 30.4% from the field.
Stockton raced out to a 36-17 halftime lead and didn't look back, outscoring Morrisville State 26-8 in the third.
Morrisville State will return to the court tomorrow at 1 p.m. in the consolation game, taking on either New England College or Delaware Valley.
