Wildcats withstand late Mustang rally, top Morrisville women 84-75  


MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Host Morrisville State College women's basketball battled back from a 17-point fourth quarter deficit, but visiting Cazenovia College was able to withstand the late rally and secure the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) win from the free throw line on the Mustangs home court Wednesday night.

The loss drops Morrisville State to 10-9 overall, 8-3 within conference play, while Cazenovia improves to 7-10, 3-7 in NEAC action.

Sophomore Tori Rockefeller (Bloomville, N.Y.) led all scorers on the night with a collegiate best 35 points, draining 6-of-11 from long range, 22 in the second half, while contributing five steals to the efforts on the night.

Fellow teammate Marissa Woodard (Unadilla, N.Y.) also notched double figures, netting 12, to go along with seven rebounds, while Alexis Campbell (Buffalo, N.Y.) collected 11 points, assisting five.

Haley Kilmartin (Fort Plain, N.Y.) collected seven rebounds and a career best nine steals, adding seven points.

Cazenovia led by as many as 17 with 8:20 to go in the fourth quarter, before the Mustangs took advantage of Wildcat turnovers and put together a 20-6 run to make it a three point ball game with just over a minute remaining in the contest.

The visitors, however, secured the win down the stretch from the free throw line, converting 9-of-10 opportunities for the 84-75 victory.

Morrisville State finished shooting 35.8% from the floor, a 45.5% effort in the final quarter of action.

The Mustangs return to the court Saturday, hosting Gallaudet University. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m. in the Student Activities Gymnasium.
