Stevenson, Schmaltz earn weekly honor from CHC

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Colonial Hockey Conference (CHC) announced its weekly award winners for play through Sunday, November 27, tabbing Morrisville State College duo Renee Stevenson (Winnipeg, MB) and Renee Schmaltz (Beaumont, AB) the Player and Goaltender of the Week, respectively.

Stevenson, named the Player of the Week, assisted Morrisville State to a 3-0 record on the week behind her seven-point performance. The freshman tallied her first collegiate hat trick in the 9-0 rout of Nichols College on Saturday, adding two assists for a five point outing, before concluding the week with a two point outing against New England College where she had a goal and assisted another.

The freshman is a graduate of the University of Winnipeg Collegiate High and is majoring in health related studies at Morrisville State. She is the daughter of Aldyne and Greg Stevenson of Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Schmaltz posted a 3-0 record between the pipes to keep the Mustangs undefeated to date on the season, as the collectively turned away 71 of 72 shots faced for a 98.6 save percentage across three games.

She started the week with a season high 37 saves in a 2-0 victory over Hamilton to collect her fifth shutout of the season, before adding 13 additional saves in the 9-0 rout of Nichols to register her sixth game on the year that has left opponents scoreless.

Schmaltz capped off the week with 21 saves in a 4-1 decision over New England College.

The sophomore is an environmental science and natural resources conservation major at Morrisville State. She is the daughter of Jacquelene and Paul Schmaltz of Beaumont, Alberta.
