MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Morrisville State College sophomore goaltender, Renee Schmaltz (Beaumont, AB) earned national recognition Wednesday, getting the nod on the D3hockey.com Women's Team of the Week for the week ending November 27.
Schmaltz allowed just one goal in three games across the week, posting two shutouts to backstop the Mustangs to a 3-0 week and program best 9-0 start in just their second season of competition.
The sophomore turned away 71-of-72 shots total, beginning with a season high 37 save performance in a 2-0 shut out over Hamilton College on Tuesday. She added another clean sheet in a 9-0 defeat of Nichols where she made 13 stops, wrapping up the week with a 21 save performance in the 4-1 win over New England College.
Schmaltz, the Colonial Hockey Conference goaltender of the week, leads the CHC in goals against average (0.46), save percentage (0.974), winning percentage (1.00), and wins (9). She also leads the nation in shutouts (6), winning percentage, and goals against average, while ranking second in save percentage.
An environmental science and natural resources conservation major at Morrisville State, Schmaltz is the daughter of Jacquelene and Paul Schmaltz of Beaumont, Alberta.
