MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State Women's Ice Hockey team dropped a Colonial Hockey Conference road contest on Friday night when they saw an early lead slip away at Stevenson. Despite an early 3-1 lead, the visiting Mustangs fell 6-4.
Vanessa Klimpke (Winnipeg, Manitoba) picked up her 21st goal of the season to give Morrisville the 2-0 at the 16:35 mark. Renee Stevenson (Winnipeg, Manitoba) tallied her 19th assist of the year on the play.
Stevenson picked up a goal late in the first to cut the lead to 2-1. However, the combination of McComber and Strymecki gave the visiting Mustangs a 3-1 lead just under four minutes into the second period. This time around McComber picked up the goal, while Strymecki notched the assist along with Ciara Lark (Mildmay, Ontario).
Unfortunately, Stevenson rattled off five straight goals between the second half of the second period and the first five minutes of the third to flip the momentum to their favor.
Jessica Ujcik (Munich, German) was able to score at the 12:37 mark in the third to bring the score to 6-4 off of assists from Kimberly Hughes (Lloydminster, Alberta) and Strymecki, but the comeback stalled there.
Morrisville will look to bounce back in the battle of the Mustangs on Saturday afternoon. The puck is set to drop at Stevenson for the second game of the two-game series at 3:30 PM.
