MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State Women's Ice Hockey team picked up a critical win to cap off the first half of their 2017-2018 season as they defeated the Pioneers from Utica College 2-1 on the road on Saturday afternoon.
Bailey Dillabough (Massena, N.Y.) made the most of her only shot on goal, putting Morrisville up 1-0 at the 15:23 mark in the first period. Shanley Austin (Rochester, N.Y.) took the initial shot, and Maria deWilde (Caistorville, Ont.) corralled the deflection finding Dillabough for the put back. Austin and deWilde were credited with the assists, the seventh of the season for each of them, while the goal was Dillabough's first of the season.
The Mustangs held onto their 1-0 advantage until 4:53 into the second period when the Pioneers were able to even the score.
The two local rivals, would skate toe to toe for the next 24 minutes, as neither team was willing to give ground to the other. However, at the 8:57 mark of the third period, Kylie Cameron (Burlington, Ont.) found the back of the net off of a pass from Mackenzie Lombardi (Hamilton, Ont.) for the 2-1 lead. The game-winner for Cameron was her second game-winner of the season and her fourth goal overall.
Karoline Arvik (Trondheim, Norway) picked up the win in goal for the Mustangs, recording 21 saves on the afternoon.
The Mustangs will now go on an extended break from competition as students enter into finals week and winter break. Morrisville will return to the ice for an away non-conference matchup at Middlebury on Tuesday, January 9 at 7 PM. The ladies will return home the following day at 3 PM on Wednesday, January 10 for another non-conference contest against Castleton.
