MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State Women's Ice Hockey team scored once in the second period, but were matched by the Kangaroos in the third, ultimately settling for a 1-1 draw in their Colonial Hockey Conference (CHC) series finale.
Despite outshooting their opponents 16-2 in the opening period, the Mustangs were unable to find the back of the net.
While SUNY Canton flipped the script, outshooting Morrisville in the second, the Mustangs were able to convert one of their seven shots on goal. Alexziz Giannamore (Pittsburgh, Pa.) tallied her ninth goal of the season to give the visiting Mustangs a 1-0 lead at the 13:01 mark. Jessica Ujcik (Munich, Germany) and Chyne Kennedy (Southwold, Ont.) picked up assists on the play.
The Kangaroos and the Mustangs played nearly even in the third, but it was SUNY Canton who would take the momentum back, evening the score just over three minutes into the third period with an evenhanded goal by Breanna Bedborough.
In the one period of overtime, Morrisville did not allow a single SUNY Canton shot. However, the Mustangs two shots on goal were denied and both teams were forced to settle for the 1-1 tie.
Morrisville will turn their attention to another CHC foe as they return to their home ice for a weekend series against Becker. Puck drop for the opener on Friday, February 2 is set for 5 PM, while the finale is set for 2 PM on Saturday, February 3.
