Morrisville State women’s hockey draws Norwich for NCAA Tournament opening round  


MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) announced its tournament field for the 2017-18 Division III Women's Ice Hockey Championship Monday, and paired recently crowned Colonial Hockey Conference (CHC) champions, Morrisville State College (17-7-3) against Norwich University (24-1-3) in the first round of the nine team field.

Both teams will face-off Saturday, March 10 at 3 p.m. at Norwich University.

The Cadets clinched its eighth New England Hockey Conference (NEHL) title Saturday to earn the automatic bid to the tournament. Norwich reached the Frozen Four a year ago, falling to eventual champion Plattsburgh State, 4-0, in the semifinal round.

Morrisville State earned the conference's first automatic bid with a 3-2 overtime victory over Endicott College Sunday. In just their third year of existence, the Mustangs have collected two Colonial Hockey titles, and will appear for the first time on the national stage in 2018.
