Morrisville State women cruise to conference win over Hilbert, post 21-0 shut out  


HILBERT, N.Y. – Eight different Morrisville State women's lacrosse players posted goals Saturday afternoon as they dominated host Hilbert College and earned a 21-0 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) win over the Hawks in Eden.

The win brings the Mustangs to 4-6 overall, 2-0 within conference play. Hilbert drops to 1-6, 0-2 in the NEAC.

Gianna Branca (Camillus, N.Y.) led all scorers with nine points behind five goals and four assists, while teammate Brianna DelColle (Huntington, N.Y.) added four goals.

Chelsea McNeal (Ithaca, N.Y.) also added four, as Celia Abbott (Shortsville, N.Y.) chipped in three to go along with three assists.

Courtney Cavellier (Rodman, N.Y.) posted two, also adding three assists, while Jillian Hughes (Brookfield, N.Y.), Melissa Lucciola (Monroe, N.Y.) and Kennedy Cox (Blythe, Calif.) each netted one.

Marissa Woodard (Unadilla, N.Y.) earned the shut out, recording one save in 48 minutes of play, before Sara Gelster (Hamburg, N.Y.) finished the game with one stop in the final 12 minutes.

Morrisville State rattled off 14 scores in the first half for a commanding 14-0 lead at the break, allowing just two Hilbert shot attempts.

The Mustangs return to the field Sunday, hosting Medaille College in a noon NEAC contest on Drake Field.
