Branca named NEAC Women’s Lacrosse Player of the Week  


MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) office announced its weekly award winners, naming Morrisville State College senior attack, Gianna Branca (Camillus, N.Y.) the women's lacrosse Player of the Week for the week ending April 29.

Branca led Morrisville State to a 2-0 week, collectively posting 10 goals and six assists across two games.

The senior scored seven goals and added four assists for 11 points in the 24-7 victory over Penn St. Abington, going 2-for-2 in free positions, while collecting two ground balls and four draw controls. She added three caused turnovers to her tallies in the contest.

She followed with five points on three goals and two assists in the 12-4 victory over Bryn Athyn to keep the Mustangs tied for first place in conference standings, also picking up five ground balls, collecting a draw control win and causing four turnovers.

In that same contest, Branca became the all-time season point leader with 114 total points, breaking the five year old record established in 2013. She is only the second Mustang to record more than 100 points in a single season in program history, and now also holds the season and career record for all-time assists.

On the week Branca averaged 5.0 goals, 3.0 assists, 8.0 points per game, 3.5 ground balls, 2.5 draw controls and 3.5 caused turnovers per game, while shooting 65% from the field.

A graduate of West Genesee High, Branca is majoring in nursing at Morrisville State. She is the daughter of Joy Anthis and Carmen Branca of Camillus.
