MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State Volleyball team wrapped up their regular season conference schedule on Sunday afternoon defeating Wells College 3-2 to qualify for the upcoming North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) playoffs.
The win brought the Mustangs to an 11-2 NEAC record, and the 20-win plateau for the first time in program history since moving to NCAA Division III competition.
Megyan Merrill (Millport, N.Y.) and Emilee Niejadlik (Hamburg, N.Y.) both reached the double digit kill mark in the match. Merrill put away 23, while Niejadlik posted 11. While the two outside hitters provided much of the offensive punch, it was the defense that was the difference maker in the match.
Five different Mustangs posted double digit digs in the match. Samantha Wolf (Liverpool, N.Y.) led the way with 24, while Helena Hanes (St. Mary's, Pa.) and Merrill posted 19. Niejadlik ended the day with 15 digs and Amelia Baratier (Liverpool, N.Y.) tacked on 13.
The net defense was also outstanding for the Mustangs. Elycia Crittenden (Louisville, Ky.) posted two solo blocks, while Niejadlik, Merrill, and Hanes each added one.
The Mustangs will travel to Hartwick College on Wednesday evening for a 6 PM match to wrap up their regular season. NEAC Playoffs are set to begin on Friday, November 4. Details on the tournament will be released once they are available.
