MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State Volleyball team dropped a hard fought battle 3-2 against Hartwick College on Wednesday evening in their final regular season test before the conference tournament.
The Mustangs dropped the first two sets 15-25 and 17-25, but rebounded to take set three 25-10.
Down two sets to one going into the fourth set, the Mustangs mounted an epic comeback win 29-27 to force a fifth set.
Morrisville came out hot in the fifth set, but the Hawks crept back in as the Mustangs struggled to find the same offensive consistency they had the first several points of the set, falling 10-15.
Despite the loss, the Mustangs continued to play excellent team defense recording 94 digs and collecting 10 blocks as a team. Five Mustangs posted dig totals in the double digits.
Helena Hanes (St. Mary's, Pa.) posted 10 kills and tallied 14 assists in the match.
The net defense was also outstanding for the Mustangs. Elycia Crittenden (Louisville, Ky.) posted two solo blocks, while Niejadlik, Merrill, and Hanes each added one.
Morrisville will begin preparations for the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Tournament. SUNY Poly will host the Final Four portion of the tournament on Saturday and Sunday, November 5 and 6 as well as quarter final action on Friday, November 4. The Mustangs Quarter Final match will take place at SUNY Poly at 5 PM on the 4th against Lancaster Bible.
