MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) office announced its 2016 Volleyball Individual Award winners Thursday, naming Morrisville State College freshman libero, Samantha Wolf (Liverpool, N.Y.) the Defensive Player of the Year, as voted by the conference coaches.
In 29 matches during the regular season, Wolf compiled a team high 508 digs, an average of 4.50 per set, and contributed to the Mustangs offensive attack with 81 assists and 47 service aces.
Wolf tops the conference ranks in digs, with 508, and is first in digs per set, while ranking 11th in service aces (47). She posted single match highs of 35 digs against Maine-Fort Kent, and in conference play, 24 in a heated 3-2 match decision with Wells College to earn the team's first bid to the post-season tournament.
In 23 matches this season she had 10 or more defensive stops, and 13 times on the year had registered 20+ digs per match.
Named the NEAC Defensive Player of the Week twice in her freshman campaign, Sept. 13 and Oct. 25, Wolf was also named the ECAC Corvias Division III North Defensive Player of the Week twice on Sept. 15 and Oct. 26.
An All-Conference selection on second team, Wolf currently ranks 51st in all of Division III in digs.
The freshman is a graduate of Liverpool High and is majoring in business administration at Morrisville State. She is the daughter of Julie and Tom Wolf of Liverpool.
