Morrisville State announces volleyball tournament schedule / site changes

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Morrisville State College Athletic Director, Greg Carroll, announced changes to the Mustangs season opening volleyball tournament scheduled to begin Friday, September 1, due to the unavailability of the college's gymnasium facility.

Due to a delay in the return of air quality samples taken in Morrisville State's gymnasium following a summer asbestos abatement project, this weekend's volleyball tournament has been relocated to Morrisville Eaton High School (5061 Fearon Rd, Morrisville, NY 13408).

Since the high school gym is a one court facility the decision has been made to forego the tournament format in favor of straight match play which will follow the schedule below.

Friday, host Morrisville State will take on visiting Alfred State at 4 p.m.

Saturday's action will begin at 11 a.m. with the hosts taking on Norwich, followed by Keystone and Alfred State at 1 p.m.; Oswego and Penn St. Behrend at 3 p.m.; MIT and Keystone at 5 p.m.; and concluding with MIT taking on Alfred State at 7 p.m.

Sunday, tournament action continues with Keystone hitting the court against Norwich at 11 a.m.; at 1 p.m. Penn St. Behrend takes on MIT, followed by Behrend taking on Norwich at 3 p.m. Oswego will face MIT at 5 p.m. and Morrisville State wraps up the action with a 7 p.m. bout against Oswego.

"We are truly sorry for this chain of events," said Carroll.  "It's been a see-saw process for the past couple weeks."

"Initially we were told we would be easily in by Labor Day weekend and then suddenly on Tuesday we were told we would not be allowed back in the gym until next week.  This is not how we are accustomed to working in the athletic department so it's been frustrating to say the least."

"Coach Fred Wallace has done a great job working with Morrisville Eaton High School and we think the match schedule will provide a great opening opportunity for all participating teams."

Carroll expressed sincere appreciation to Morrisville Eaton Athletic Director Chris Dorshenko for helping the Mustangs through this challenging time.

Morrisville State College's curricula are enriched with applied learning and pave the way for opportunity at both the Morrisville and Norwich campuses.
