MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) office announced its 2017 Women's Volleyball Preseason Poll, tabbing Morrisville State second overall, as voted by conference coaches.
The Mustangs received one first place vote and collected 135 total points in the voting process.
After advancing to the semi-finals of the championship tournament in 2016, sixth year head coach Fred Wallace and the Mustangs have high expectations for the upcoming season.
Three All-Conference selections return to the court alongside six additional returners from last year's squad, including first team All-Conference selection Helena Hanes (St. Mary's, Pa.). Reigning Defensive Player of the Year Samantha Wolf (Liverpool, N.Y.) also returns with fellow sophomore Megyan Merrill (Millport, N.Y.), both second team All-Conference selections.
Defending conference champion, Gallaudet University, is the favorite heading into the season, after earning 12 of the total 14 first place votes. Wells College, SUNY Polytechnic and Penn St. Berks round out the top five.
Morrisville State faced off against Gallaudet in the five set battle in the semi-finals last season, before the Bison edged out the victory, eventually capturing the title.
