Mustangs Split in Home Tri-Match, Defeat NEAC Foe Gallaudet but Fall to Geneseo

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State Women's Volleyball team upended the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) pre-season top vote getter, Gallaudet University 3-0 on Friday afternoon before going on to fall in three sets to Geneseo during the nightcap.

The Mustangs rode another strong defensive performance in the first match from senior, Lindsey Sunderlage (Kingston, Ill.) who threw down three big solo blocks while assisting on two as Morrisville dominated the net with seven total team blocks.

Morrisville also continued their trend of spreading out their offensive attack.  Setters Kim Dunkleman (Williamsville, N.Y.) and Helena Hanes (Brockport, Pa.) combined for 26 assists, leading the Mustangs to a .202 hitting percentage.

Offensively, Hanes and Megyan Merrill (Millport, N.Y.) each added 8 kills to the Mustang attack.  Amelia Baratier (Liverpool, N.Y.) added 6 kills, while Elycia Crittenden (Louisville, Ky.) tacked on five.

Unfortunately, the Mustangs ran out of steam for the 8 PM match against the Knights from Geneseo, as the hosts were forced into a negative hitting percentage for the first time all season.

Morrisville will hit the road over the next two weeks, playing NEAC opponents Wells College and SUNY Poly along with several non-conference matches, highlighted by local rivals Hamilton College and Utica College.  The Mustangs will return to their home gym on Thursday, October 5 as they host Keuka College in another critical NEAC matchup.
