Mustangs Grind Out Tight Three Set Win over Hartwick

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State Women's Volleyball team was forced to grind out a tight 3-0 non-conference win on Wednesday night as they played host to the Hawks from Hartwick College.

The Mustangs had a lead through most of the three sets, but a handful of unforced hitting errors allowed the Hawks to hang around.  However, Morrisville persevered thanks to a strong defensive performance at the net by freshman, Kirsten Florio (Wellsboro, Pa.) who provided the team with a solo block while assisting on five others.

Offensively, Helena Hanes (Brockport, Pa.) led the way in kills, picking up nine.  Hanes, who also sets, picked up six assists throughout the match putting her at 1,000 assists for her career.

The Mustangs also continued to dominate on the serve, picking up 12 aces.  Setter, Kim Dunkleman (Williamsville, N.Y.) tallied five aces of her own while also orchestrating the Morrisville offensive attack, picking up eleven assists.  Megyan Merrill picked up three aces, and tied Dunkleman for the second highest team kill total of four.

Morrisville will hit the road this weekend for four key non-conference regional match ups at the Wilkes University Tournament.  The Mustangs will face the host Colonels in their opening match on Friday night before taking on Kean.  Saturday will feature matches against Catholic and Moravian.

The Mustangs will wrap up their home regular season and conference schedule on Wednesday, October 25 at 7 PM.
